Below is our recent interview with Siaw Lei Ng, Country Manager at Kaodim Singapore:
Q: Could you please tell us about yourself and your background?
A: I am a typical Singaporean that grew up in the ‘90s and ‘00s. For most in my generation, we were taught to focus on pursuing careers in the math and science fields, and hence I graduated an engineer. I however started my career in the financial services industry, spending about 8 years in total in an investment bank. At that point I was in a comfortable position, just cruising along in my career. It was then that I realized that I will either spend the rest of my life in that industry, or take the plunge and see what else is out there. I quit my job and pursued a full-time MBA in INSEAD and after which, I decided to pursue a career that is completely out of my comfort zone.
Q: Could you provide our readers with a brief introduction to Kaodim Singapore?
A: Kaodim is a colloquial term for getting the job done and Kaodim Singapore provides an easy and convenient way for customers to hire services such as home cleaning, moving, air-con servicing and many more. We are currently mainly in the home services categories but have plans to explan into other verticals as well. Kaodim Singapore has hundreds of service providers on boarded on our platform and thousands of service transactions flow through our platform every month.
Q: How exactly does your platform work?
A: We currently offer 2 ways of booking services through our platform. The first is what is known as the compare quotation model. In this model, we match our customers with up to 5 different service providers and they provide their quotations based on the job requirements provided by customers when they leave a request on our platform. In the 2nd model, known as the direct booking model, Kaodim publishes prices based on a certain set of job scope, customers get matched to only 1 service provider and job is assumed to be confirmed unless otherwise expressed by our customers. The 2 different models of booking services is dependent on the type of service required by the customer. For example, if a customer requires aircon services, they will always have to book it through the direct booking model.
Q: Can you give us insights into your services?
A: Kaodim provides a reliable and convenient way to hire local services. Services provided range from residential moving to plumbing installation. All our service providers on our platform go through background checks and we also ask for testimonials from their previous clients. On top of that, we have set up processes on an ongoing basis to ensure that non-performing vendors will be eliminated from the platform in order to ensure our service quality. Kaodim also offers re-servicing or money back guarantee on certain service types.
On top of service quality, Kaodim aims to provide price transparency so that customers know exactly what they are getting. In the service industry, prices can vary greatly across jobs that are seemingly similar, and we aim to provide consistency and transparency into the pricing process wherever we can. For example, for our moving packages, we price in a modular way, starting from a base price and adding on for any other requirement related to the move.
In our compare quotation model, we hope to provide customers with more than 1 quotation at least, so that customers are able to compare and benchmark prices.
Q: What type of customer would benefit the most from your services?
A: Customers that are looking for a fuss-free, quick and reliable way to hire services. Or anyone that may be new to the city and do not know where else to look for reliable and quick ways to hire services. Kaodim is also a one-stop shop for customers that may be looking for multiple services and our platform is a great place to shop for all the service that you may require.
Q: What’s next for Kaodim Singapore? Do you have plans to grow, expand or diversify?
A: The focus for the next year or so will still be to ensure that we continuously ensure the best service standard to our customers, as well as provide a great user experience to our service providers. We are also looking to expand into other service verticals as well as to grow our offline presence in the market.
